We aim to give you the best possible experience and make sure you enjoy using Snipd. To that end, we collect personal data. Your privacy and the security of your data is and will always be extremely important to us. In this policy we explain the details about the collection, usage and sharing of your personal data when using Snipd. If your consent for the data collection and processing is required, we would ask you outside of this privacy policy.

This policy explains how Snipd processes personal data when you use its mobile applications, websites and web tools (the "Service"), including without signing in.

When does Snipd collect your personal data?

Snipd collects your personal data, when

• you download the App,
• you sign up for the Service,
• you use the Service, including without signing in, and
• when you contact us.

Data collection and data processing in connection with the Service

Data that we automatically collect and store when you are using our services

We automatically collect and store data when you interact with and use Snipd. This data may include, but is not limited to:

• Information about your interactions with Snipd such as search queries, questions, listening behaviour or editing a playlist,
• inferences about your interests and preferences based on your usage of Snipd;
• content that you provide, create, upload or save, such as snips, notes, questions, conversations, text, audio, playlist items and names, likes, and communication with us; related generated content and data representations, such as transcripts, summaries and embeddings;
• technical data including online identifiers such as cookies or IP addresses, device information such as the operating system, the non-exact location information derived from indirect sources such as the IP address.

Registration and use of the Service

We automatically collect and store data when you interact with and use the Service. This data may include, but is not limited to:

• Information about your interactions with the Service such as search queries, questions, listening behaviour or editing a playlist,
• inferences about your interests and preferences based on your usage of the Service;
• content that you provide, create, upload or save, such as snips, notes, questions, conversations, text, audio, playlist items and names, likes, and communication with us; related generated content and data representations, such as transcripts, summaries and embeddings;
• technical data including online identifiers such as cookies or IP addresses, device information such as the operating system, the non-exact location information derived from indirect sources such as the IP address.

We also collect your email address and account details when you register. Before sign-in, we may use an account or session identifier to manage access and save your activity.

In order to simplify the sign-up process, we allow you to sign-up through third-party services. If you choose to sign up or log in through a third-party service (e.g. Apple or Google) we import and store the information that you agree to share with Snipd from that service in order for you to use your own Snipd account.

Your user data is stored during the signup process in order to create a user profile for you. If you want to change your user data you can directly contact us via email (privacy@snipd.com). If you do not want to provide personal user data you can use the anonymous sign up. Anonymous sign up is limited to the Free Service (as defined in our Terms of Use) as for the Premium Service (as defined in our Terms of Use) you need to enter personal user data in relation to your payment method.

The purposes of data processing

We collect personal data exclusively for the following purposes

• providing Snipd for its users;
• improving Snipd for its users;
• personalizing Snipd for its users;
• charging fees for the Premium Service;
• sending communications;
• technical troubleshooting and debugging;
• testing and developing new features;
• optimize our advertising;
• complying with legal obligations;
• responding to enforcement requests;
• protecting Snipd rights and interests and those of the users;
• detecting any malicious or fraudulent activity and
• to answer your questions.

Legal basis for the data collection

1. The legal basis for the collection and processing of the above described data depends on the type of personal data and on the specific context in which we collect them.
2. We process personal data needed to provide the Service based on our contractual obligations. We also process personal data based on our legitimate interests in improving, personalising, developing and protecting the Service, optimising our advertising and investigating technical issues.

Third-party services and transfer of personal data

To build and run Snipd we use third-party service providers that work on our behalf and which may need to access certain personal data in order to provide their services to us. In particular, we use cloud service providers to host the Service and store and secure data. Besides hosting and data storage, there are further purposes for which personal data may be processed and stored on service providers' servers. Below we explain the list of services we use and the type of data which is processed.

Analytics

• Purpose: monitor and analyze the usage of Snipd

• Service provider: Google Analytics, including Google Analytics for Firebase and website analytics (Google LLC)

• Logging of user properties: Google Analytics automatically logs user properties (e.g. age group, device brand, or language) to that end mobile ad identifiers and/or cookies are used by Google to infer demographics and interest information, the IP address is used to infer location data.

• Logging of events: Google Analytics automatically logs some user events (e.g. time of a session start or a certain page of the app is viewed). In addition, Snipd tracks more app-specific events such as editing behavior of playlists.

• Screen tracking: Google Analytics tracks screen transitions to enable data-driven decisions to improve the user-experience.

• Personal data processed: account or app-instance identifiers, mobile ad identifiers where enabled, IP address, cookies, technical information and usage events

For the mobile app, if you wish to opt-out of the data processing by Google Analytics, please contact us directly. As of now, data processing for analytics is mandatory and opting out of this option implies that the app cannot be used by you.

Website analytics with Fathom

• Purpose: Understand website usage and improve our websites.
• Service provider: Conva Ventures Inc., Canada (Fathom Analytics).
• Personal data processed: IP address, browser and device information, and website usage data. No analytics cookies are used.
• Place of processing: EU visitors’ personal data is processed in the EU; other visitors’ personal data is processed in the United States. Anonymised analytics are stored in the United States. Processing information.

Hosting, data storage and backend infrastructure

• Purpose: provide Snipd to its users and enable hosting, storage, databases, authentication and AI functionality

• Purpose: generate and personalise content, answer questions, and generate embeddings or rank search results

• Personal data processed: content needed for the feature, such as questions, conversation context, notes, snips and text or transcripts; relevant content metadata and generated outputs

Text to speech

• Purpose: generate spoken audio, including personalised audio and speech from text provided through the Service

Language detection

Some third-party services process personal data on our behalf. Others process it for their own purposes, as described in their privacy policies.

Third-party services you connect

If you choose to connect the Service to another service, such as Notion, Readwise or Glasp, we send content such as your snips and notes, and related metadata, to that service at your request and according to your integration settings. This may include ongoing synchronisation. The connected service processes the information under its own terms, privacy policy and any agreement you have with it. You can disconnect an integration to stop future synchronisation.

International transfers

Personal data may be processed outside Switzerland or your country of residence, including in the countries identified above. Where required by applicable data protection law, we transfer personal data on the basis of an applicable adequacy decision or appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses. You can contact privacy@snipd.com for information about the applicable safeguards or to request a copy.

Data retention and deletion

Your personal data is only stored as long as it is necessary for the purpose which your personal data was collected and processed for (e.g. for as long as you are user and registered with Snipd).

Based upon request, we will delete or anonymise your personal data so that it no longer identifies you, unless we are legally allowed or required to maintain certain personal data.

As soon as there is no more legitimate business activity for the processing of your personal data, we will delete your personal data. Legal storage obligations remain unaffected.

Your rights

If you wish any information about your personal data or if you would like to have access to your personal data, or if you would like to amend, update or delete your personal data, you can contact us by e-mail (privacy@snipd.com).

If you have your residence within the European Union, you can additionally object the proceeding of your personal data, ask us to restrict the proceeding of your personal data, or ask for the transfer of your personal data. To exercise your rights you can contact us by e-mail (privacy@snipd.com).

If we collect and process your personal data based on your consent you have the right to revoke your consent at any time. Such a revocation does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its revocation, nor processing that is independently lawful on another applicable basis.

You have the right to complain to a data protection authority about the collection and use of your personal data.

Children

Snipd is not directed at and not permitted to be used by children under the age of 18 years. We do not knowingly collect personal data of children who are younger than 18 years. If you are younger than 18 years do not use Snipd and do not provide any personal data to us.

Changes to this policy

We may update and change this policy from time to time. Users will be notified about any changes and are asked to read the updated policies carefully.
